Dubai is taking another major step towards becoming a smarter, cashless city with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announcing that 72% of its next-generation nol system upgrade has been completed. The transformation will replace the traditional card-based ticketing system with an advanced account-based digital payment platform, offering commuters greater flexibility and convenience.
The upgraded nol system will introduce QR code ticketing, smartphone digital wallet integration, new-generation nol cards, bank card payments, and personalised customer accounts. Users will be able to link multiple nol cards, manage family accounts, activate automatic top-ups, view transaction history, recover balances, and block lost cards with ease.
Scheduled for full completion by the end of the first quarter of 2027, the project supports Dubai’s vision of creating a seamless, cashless, and technology-driven transport network while expanding nol beyond public transport into everyday retail payments across the UAE. The initiative marks another milestone in Dubai’s journey towards becoming one of the world’s leading smart cities.
